Ta

Been waiting for the right time to flaunt my bragging rights. I guess this is no longer a premature moment to dance a jig and take out that magnum of Dom.

There are two reasons for my camp to celebrate right now.

Tata bagged the Championship trophy for the Hardtail category in the Bahada! 2009 Dowhill Mountain Bike Open held in Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental, Philippines, just this afternoon, May 3. The race was one of the highlights of Misamis Occidental”s celebration of its 80th year anniversary as a province.

Ta — the guy who used to drive down a mountain slope on a motorcycle with no brakes — and I talked over the phone earlier, and he shared the happy news of his victory. It was his first race outside of Valencia.

Just a week ago, he took the third place medal for downhill. He was the only one who used a hardtail bike to run down the tracks of Camp Lookout, Valencia, Negros Oriental (near our tropical jungle home). The other riders used the full suspension, envy-inducing downhill mountain bikes. Still, Ta made it to the qualifiers.

The race in Camp Lookout last April 26 was actually the third leg of the Fox Philippines 2009 Downhill Mountainbike Series, which had a somber start in Baguio, where Epoy Molina met his tragic accident.

Well, on Tuesday, after Ta’s third placer in our tropical jungle, he told me, through the phone, that he was off to Ozamis on Thursday for another shot at being included in the qualifiers. Then the news came early this evening that he placed as Champion in the hardtail category.

The best news: He might be able to come to Manila to run in the fourth leg of the Fox series to be held in Rizal province at the end of this month (insert flashing strobe lights here).

And now…. For Feyoh’s brag: To date, Ta has

  • champion’s trophy (beginner’s category) from the 2007 Sandurot Festival Mountainbike Race (Negros Oriental Government). Tracks: Camp Lookout, Valencia, Negros Oriental.
  • champion’s trophy (intermediate category) from the 2008 Sandurot Festival Mountainbike Race (Negros Oriental Government). Tracks: Mampas, Valencia, Negros Oriental.
  • third place medal (beginner’s category) from the Fox 2009 Series (Fox and other sponsors). Tracks: Camp Lookout, Valencia, Negros Oriental.
  • champion’s trophy (hardtail category) from the Bahada! 2009 Downhill Mountain Bike Open, May 3, 2009 (Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental). Tracks: Mt. Malindang, Misamis Occidental.

There… and I think this might answer Lurchie‘s long-ago tag (in her Neverdainty blog) for me to brag about my man.

Couldn’t be prouder than I am right now. πŸ™‚ πŸ˜€ πŸ™‚

Oh, and the second cause for celebration? Obviously, Pacquiao’s 2nd round win against Hatton.
